I am pleased to offer my first pony-sized introduction. With so many “advancements” being made at an alarming pace I concede that this is not the fanciest faced of registered daylilies in its class. However, Carousel Pony has won me over during the testing period as being a very fine consideration as an overall landscape use daylily due to its lengthy bloom season and overall proportionate presentation. The eye appears to be spinning due to the overlapping petals interrupting the eye and is edged with a narrow gold filigree. The pedigree contains three of Pauline Henry’s cultivars converted to the tetraploid level.
This cream-based flower with a layered violet eye would make a superb plant for commercial design use in the front of the perennial border.
On some occurrences the violet eye color is not as pronounced in which case the color is more of a maroon color. Very fertile.
