About

The Garden of Eaton is situated on just over 2 acres in Northeast Ohio.  As far as the gardens, they are under development as we have only recently moved here. The design concept for many display beds along with countless companion plants exists merely in my head. I assure you they are spectacular. Thus far efforts have been exerted in establishing solely daylily beds. A job in and of itself.

Allow me to introduce myself, I am Eric Moore. I have been dabbing daylily pollen since 1999. I got my start at Moldovan’s Gardens in Avon, Oh. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to both the late Steve C. Moldovan and Roy G. Woodhall for their tutelage, patience, friendship  and generosity. Without their encouragement I’d most likely have a different hobby and none of this would be possible. I’d also like to thank Ron Zayac of Canterbury Creek Gardens in Westlake, Oh for first introducing me to the beauty of the modern tetraploid daylily. Special thanks also to Richard Bartsche of Cahoon Nursery in Westlake, Oh. for taking a chance on a kid and laying the groundwork for my horticultural interests. I was previously employed in their garden centers.

I am college educated in the field of horticultural science. My college internship was conducted at Moldovan’s Gardens under the direction of Steve. I would also like to thank several others that have taken the time to “teach” me. David Emmitt, James Wilson, Leo Mahoney and James Funai (and others) all of Cuyahoga Community College along with Dr. Robert Griesbach Sr. who I have had the privilege in recent years to visit. The many conversations with daylily hybridizers and connoisseurs are too numerous to list. I’d just like to say thank you to each of you, many have provided mentorship.  I always look forward to meeting daylily people and enjoy talking plants with friends I haven’t met yet.

In addition, I am also an army veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The last few years have been vastly rewarding being able to once again work with plants. Imagine the chiding a soldier receives while looking at daylily catalogs in the presence of fellow soldiers. I’d like to thank the U. S. Army for well um… it didn’t kill me so I guess I’m stronger. I highly recommend the beef stew MRE that was my favorite.

I currently am employed in the field of horticulture with a federal maintenance contractor. I am also continually pursuing further education in the industry. Absolute gratitude needs to be expressed to my friends and family. Without their love and support any “success” in life would certainly be far less. Aside from plants interests include music, hiking, and fishing. I am a member of the American Hemerocallis Society, American Horticultural Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Northeast Ohio Daylily Society.
