Pete and Nicole
Pete and Nicole
(Moore, E.D.)
(Knife’s Edge x Ron Valente)
Dormant Mid. 26” scapes 6” flowers 3 way branching averaging 18 buds
In the years of this cultivar’s testing and propagation period based primarily on the pedigree I have always thought of a New England gentleman I had the privilege to know, Ron Valente. Ron imparted on me what has turned out to be some of the best advice any daylily hybridizer or man for that matter has ever given me. I only wish I could’ve been aware of that at the time.
Pete and Nicole the daylily is a delightful purple that is surrounded by a white serrated edge. The watermark is of a much lighter purple color and encompasses a green throat. The blossoms have always presented the appearance of having a purple haze over them to me. The sturdy upright top branched scapes are carried well above the foliage. An interesting feature of this cultivar is how low and arching the blue-green foliage is, this is clearly an inherited trait from the pod parent Ron Valente’s low growing masterpiece Knife’s Edge.
The name Pete and Nicole was chosen and presented as my wedding gift to a beautiful and wonderful couple currently residing in the Chicago area. They were married in the summer of 2010. Pete is from a family of 12 children and their clothing actually had to be color coded for the sake of organization. Purple was his color. To Pete and Nicole, I wish you both a lifetime of wedded happiness.
