Much of my purple hybridizing follows the traditional lines that Steve Moldovan developed and with this cultivar a new avenue has been achieved. The Shadow Knows is indebted to Steve’s work in that it has the same S-curved scape as its grandparent Mason’s Mark. The purple self is accentuated by a deeply veined violet watermark surrounded with a dark purple, nearly black eye band.

I have used this cultivar a great deal in hybridizing due to the possibilities I believe are available within its pedigree. Although it has not been used much with patterns, I do feel it may produce patterned offspring and will be pursuing that goal this coming season. Our photo displays the appearance late in the afternoon. During 2009 this cultivar did rebloom. Difficult pod parent but is fertile both ways.
